Beating the Heat: Dog Safety Tips for Game Day

Southern California doesn't really get the memo that summer's over. Games can still run hot, afternoons are still brutal, and if your dog's coming along, it's worth a second thought before you head out.

A Few Basics Worth Repeating

  • Check the pavement. If it's too hot for the back of your hand for five seconds, it's too hot for paws.
  • Shade isn't optional. A tailgate spot under a tree or canopy beats one baking in direct sun for hours.
  • Watch for heavy panting or slowing down. That's your dog telling you it's time for water and shade, not a few more minutes.
  • Bring more water than you think you need. It disappears faster than you'd expect once everyone's sharing the bowl.

None of this is complicated, it's just easy to forget when you're juggling a cooler, chairs, and trying not to miss kickoff. A little planning goes a long way.
